Fresh from the Easel...

'Spillage'

18" x 26" Oil on Stretched Linen Canvas
Available on my Website

I'm beginning to wonder if my love for colour has something to do with the significant amount of grey we have been experiencing over here. It might be summer, but this angry sky has not been playing ball!

Even though we live in the 'sunshine coast' of England, it seems that up to now, there has been four seasons everyday... And for the most part, it's been Autumn! Humph!

It's all a bit pants, because I was born to be in the sun. I should have lived somewhere hot; Somewhere where everyday is a barbecue day... Somewhere where there is no need to wear anything other than flip-flops and a sundress! Give me 30 degree heat any day! I LOVE it!

So maybe these bright colours come from my need for some sunshine.
Well you've heard of 'colour therapy', right? Perhaps this is mine!

Pondering on this possibility, I had a look at how the colours of my painting might affect mood. It seems that mostly they invite serenity, tranquillity and positivity. I'm happy with that :0)

Anyway, apparently things are now going to warm up... Fingers crossed for some blistering heat!
Meanwhile it's time to get my wellies on and take Sherlock for a wade through the swamp!

I hope you enjoy the new piece!
Time to start a new one!

  1. Sandra, as always your work is a joy to see. And if you want the kind of weather you describe you'll have to come to sweltering Florida. LOL ! At least 6 months of the kind you like...

    1. Thank you Barbra! Ah yes... Florida! We got married in Naples, Florida in October 99 and the weather was amazing! I love humidity and it was really humid at the time. And we had a couple of tornado warnings which was very exciting! But mostly it was glorious sunshine!!

    1. Merci beaucoup Olivier, vous êtes si bon! Et je suis si heureux que vous l'aimez! Pendant ce temps, le soleil commence à briller enfin ici et la pluie a cessé. J'espère que cela continue! : 0)

Thank you so much Olivier, you are so kind! And I am so glad you like it! Meanwhile, the sun is beginning to shine here finally and the rain has stopped. I hope it continues! :0)

  3. There might be something in your theory as my love of colour certainly seemed to come through when we moved up here and it's pretty much always grey round these parts (apart from the amazing cloudy sunsets and northern lights when the weather does eventually play ball!) Like you, I was destined to live in year round sunshine - not sure why we didn't move to Australia instead of Scotland but hey ho!
This is fabulous - I'm loving the new lighter brighter colour schemes so different from the dark shades in your bear and glass paintings which were just as fab but definitely altogether more traditional in colour. This is just so frivolous and fun - I love it!

    1. Thanks so much Nic! Yes, Australia sound right up my street too... Wish I could up sticks and move there! I really enjoy painting with brighter colours... Funny how we evolve! That said, I haven't turned my back on the dark glass paintings... Just depends on my mood at the time I guess! I'm looking forward to staring the next one! :0)

  7. I hope you got some warmer weather by now! I would be very happy to send you some of our summer weather. It's not as hot as it was last year, but even those few days of 30 and over degrees have been far too much for me. Especially as it gets rather uncomfortably humid here. I definitely much prefer grey English weather. Scandinavia, that would be the perfect place for me to live. Maybe that's why I feel drawn to more muted colours, especially greys... Beautiful painting, especially that red bottle seems to radiate warmth and sun!
