New Glass and Marble Painting in Progress...

Having finally come back down to earth having won my first award, I am finally back at my easel, where I have been longing to be for the last 3 weeks as I faced an unavoidable break from painting due to some of life's other distractions!

Anyway, let me tell you, I am loving every single brush-stroke of this one!
It is everything I LOVE to paint; Distortion, refraction, reflection and beautiful colours!

Here it is at it's skeletal stage, just my lines mapped out...

...I am already a lot further in to the process and so far it is going just as I had hoped.
All I can wish for now is that it continues to go so well.

It's not the large, complex painting I had originally planned, but it is still an 18" x 26" and some things are just meant to be I think. Besides, I have new plans for the larger one now and I'll be starting on that as soon as this one is complete.

Anyway, since I am working on larger paintings, I decided it was time I had a Mahl Stick in my Studio.
Now I have one, I really don't have a clue how I ever managed without it!
But, Sherlock had other ideas when he clapped eyes on it. For those of you who aren't familiar with Sherlock, he is our loopy Labrador and he has an obsession with sticks! The bigger the better, as you can see in this photo...

...It was quite some wrestling match I had, in order to reclaim my Mahl Stick!
In the end it was a piece of cheese that finally swayed things my way.
Thankfully my stick was unharmed! Phew!

  1. This is going to be such a fantastic piece Sandra!!!! I hope we can join in with an occasional WIP!!! And I LOVE Sherlock....I remember when he was just a puppy!!!!

    1. Thank you :0)
Time goes so quickly Hilda! He's a big boy now!

  2. Looking great already! Congratulations on your recent award. You deserve it, my talented friend. :)

    1. You are very kind Darla!
      Thank you so much! :0)

  3. I can just see you and Sherlock struggling for the Mahl stick - how funny! As always, your painting is sure to be a delight!

    1. Thank you Susan!
Yes he can be quite stubborn when he wants to be - and freakishly strong!

  4. Looks like another really interesting composition Sandra, looking forward to seeing this one progress. Funny I was thinking about those sticks the other day but didn't know what they were called-thanks for telling me!

    1. I literally couldn't do without it now! It means I can continue working on a painting in new areas without smudging the wet paint. So I can work a lot quicker too!

  6. When you have ensured that the bit of art you need to buy is the genuine article and that you can get it at a value that is fulfilling for all parties included, the time has come to get serious!zusatzliche Lesung
