So last week I shared with you my three little singing birds in the form of pencil studies, titled 'The Dawn Chorus'. If you missed them, you can see them here.
Today I am sharing the paintings that followed from those drawings, titled...
'The Three Tenors'
It's not my usual subject, I know... but as they say, a change is as good as a rest. And sometimes it is good to get out of the comfort zone. And besides, I really enjoyed painting them!
Let me introduce them individually.
This is Placido the Warbler...
'Luciano', the Robin...
and 'Jose', the Sparrow...
...I think they're excited because they are about to go on their winter holidays!
The mornings will be quieter without them and I'll look forward to seeing them back in the Spring. But for now, the nights are drawing in, the clocks go back shortly and the temperature has dropped enough to get the log burner going again... Sigh...

Never mind! With Autumn comes new inspiration, new ideas and new paintings!
So watch this space!

Hi Sandra,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your three tenors!!! They are beautiful and adorable. The title, and their names, are perfect!
We both seem to be on a bit of a bird-painting-thing right now. :) Though Fall is here, I hope you see some more models out there for inspiration.

Hi Kathryn
DeleteThanks so much! I'm glad you like them... Yes, I saw your lovely parrot!
Most of them will go on holiday soon. In fact I have already seen a few flocks migrating across the sky! A few will remain, but they seems to be much quieter in the winter. Still, with Autumn comes log fires and festive spirit, so it's not all bad! :0)
beautiful the Birds!!

DeleteThey're very tender and so joyful! Arianna
ReplyDeleteThanks you very much Arianna!
DeleteI'm glad you like them :0)
They're so cute and I love the title and their individual names. It seems you can turn your gabs to any subject at all!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nic!
DeleteHmm... well there are lots of other things I am less inclined to paint, but it's always a nice surprise to step out of the comfort zone and find it worked! :0)
The 'three tenors' are so lovely, I can almost hear their song!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Judy!
DeleteThat might be because they are on their way towards you! ;0)
DeleteVery different for you Sandra but no less stunning. Perfectly honed studies of 3 beautiful small birds. Great work!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much John!
DeleteYes, these are not a subject I tend to paint at all, but it was fun to 'branch' out! ;0)
How cheerful and lovely! It is getting dark here in New England so early that a bit of the pre winter gloom has crept in. Thanks for the spirit lift!
ReplyDeleteYou are kind, thank you Susan! Winter has certainly kicked in here... I am cold through to the bone! There is something quite romantic about a freezing cold, crisp, bright winters day though isn't there? It's the rain I don't like!
DeleteWhat a delightful trio and I also love the individual names you chose. Beautiful work, as always, Sandra! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Serena!
