Baywatch...

So, this weekend I am determined to finish that cocktail painting... There's probably only an hour or so left to do - It's frustrating not to have finished already!

We've been busy decorating the bathroom and  it's taking up lots of our time... Particularly keeping the rest of the house clean while it's all going on... I actually found rubble in the butter the other day - Yes, I did say rubble... IN THE BUTTER!!!

Right now we don't even have a bathroom at all - not even the luxury of a floor!! We DO however have a loo, but no flush... This means every visit involves carrying a bucket full of water up the stairs and balancing precariously across the joists, trying not to fall through the kitchen ceiling! I have horrifying images of suddenly finding self sitting on loo, trousers around my ankles, surrounded by rubble... IN THE KITCHEN!!! This would be particularly embarrassing should we happen to have guests over at the time! Hmm... probably best to ban any visitors for now!
It's all very bloody undignified to say the least!

Meanwhile we are going through mountains of baby-wipes and having to go elsewhere for showers when we can... And let me tell you, trying to wash my hair over the kitchen sink without getting it (and my head) sucked down the plug-hole is not easy since my hair is about three feet long!

Hopefully we will have the new floor fitted at the end of this week and fingers crossed I will be reclining in to a luxurious bubble bath at some point over the weekend - I can not wait!! I would never have handled being born in Victorian times, that's for sure!

Anyway - at times like this it's nice to 'let go' and paint something much less pedantic than the norm - like my Seagulls, which I painted for the Naked Challenge last week...

'Baywatch'

8" x 8" Oil on Gesso Panel

...And I really enjoyed painting it too! I based it on some sketches from few years back.

Anyway, once the bathroom is finished, I'll post some photo's.
Meanwhile, I promise I'll try not to kill myself while using the bathroom! Wish me luck!

Back soon!

  1. Sounds like a lot of things happening in your house, Sandra!!!! lol But the end result will be SO wonderful!
During Hurricane Sandy I "lived" in the Victorian day and NO ...I didn't like it and wouldn't have survived much more....but we did... and by the end of the week you will be enjoying the luxurious bubble bath you deserve... This painting is so beautiful..I love the blue water and the amazing reflections from the sea gulls.

  2. Those Victorians wouldn't have worried about washing their hair, modern notions about cleanliness are really a bit over the top and very wasteful of water, but I do understand, and hope all is working again by this weekend, loved the seagulls by the way 😀

  4. I can't stop giggling at the thought of you on the loo. We have three bathrooms and I'm happy to share but you might find it hard to cross your legs for the 20hour plane trip :) I'll keep my fingers crossed that your bath will be ready in time and you can relax in the bubbles. I love your seagulls painting, they are gorgeous. Take care and don't fall down the plug hole!!

    1. Hurrah Von! We finally have a floor! So, I can safely go in the bathroom without nearly killing myself! Just waiting for the new loo to be plumbed in as we speak, then that bath... hopefully will be all done by tonight - then it's the fun things like choosing wallpaper etc... Can't wait! Glad you like the Seagulls! Thank you :0)

    1. Hmm... Yes, maybe painting such a vivid image of me with my pants around my ankles on the internet wasn't so clever, hehe! ;0)

  7. Oh Sandra - I can picture it all so clearly - sounds horrendous and I do remember going through a similar thing back when we replaced our bathroom in our last house. It'll all be worth it when you have a shiny new bathroom though - I can't wait til we can rip out our downstairs one and replace the dated horrible sink unit thingy!
Anyway, rubble in your butter aside, I love your villains - you always manage to make these paintings look both very simple and very detailed all at the same time!
