'Two's Company...'

8" x 8" Oil on Box Canvas

I came down with a bout of 'Icantpaintitus' recently - I think it started when I murdered one painting and another committed suicide! I mean - how insulting! I didn't think it was bad at all, but that darned Rubber Ducky threw itself right off the shelf! Chuh!

Anyway, it turns out that the only cure for 'Icantpaintitus' - is to paint - so I did - and I think I am much better now thank you... And better still, this Marble study has inspired me to go LARGE and do another, more complex marble painting. It's great to have something large to get my teeth in to again between smaller works :0)

More Fishy Business...

This was the third fish I painted for the Naked Challenge
I've named him 'Dave'!

8" x 8" Oil on Gesso Panel

I think the three fish look pretty cool together...

I really enjoyed painting these guys... So much so that I might even do some, more complex fishy paintings over the coming months! I have a few ideas 'swimming' around my head - Sorry, couldn't resist, haha! ;0)

The Suicidal Duck...

Here it is... My latest Martini Painting!

'Bottoms Up!'

8" x 8" Oil on Gesso Panel

Meanwhile I have also been busy painting for the Naked Challenge, however it hasn't gone quite so smoothly this month! Following a productive and successful February, March has decided to put a spanner in the works!

Week 1 was a success - I was delighted with my Seagulls!
However, on week 2, I created a MONSTER!!! There was no way it was ever going to see the light of day. Then on week 3, I painted a Rubber Duck, surrounded by bubbles, which was quite nice, I thought.

Clearly though, the duck did NOT think much of its self, because when I went back in the studio the following morning, I realised that it had literally killed its self!
Yup! It had thrown its self from the drying shelf, hit the oil heater on the way down and landed face down on a cable - all while still wet! No amount of rescue attempts would get rid of the scuff marks and sadly I hadn't even taken a photo either!
So, all in all, not a good march at all so far!!

So, this weekend I have promised myself a masterpiece! Not necessarily just for the challenge, but something that I wanted to paint anyway, but will work for the challenge too I hope. I am seriously upping my game too, I'm going large! So watch this space!

Anyway - before I go, have you ever had a suicidal painting before?
Do share your story!!

So, this weekend I am determined to finish that cocktail painting... There's probably only an hour or so left to do - It's frustrating not to have finished already!

We've been busy decorating the bathroom and  it's taking up lots of our time... Particularly keeping the rest of the house clean while it's all going on... I actually found rubble in the butter the other day - Yes, I did say rubble... IN THE BUTTER!!!

Right now we don't even have a bathroom at all - not even the luxury of a floor!! We DO however have a loo, but no flush... This means every visit involves carrying a bucket full of water up the stairs and balancing precariously across the joists, trying not to fall through the kitchen ceiling! I have horrifying images of suddenly finding self sitting on loo, trousers around my ankles, surrounded by rubble... IN THE KITCHEN!!! This would be particularly embarrassing should we happen to have guests over at the time! Hmm... probably best to ban any visitors for now!
It's all very bloody undignified to say the least!

Meanwhile we are going through mountains of baby-wipes and having to go elsewhere for showers when we can... And let me tell you, trying to wash my hair over the kitchen sink without getting it (and my head) sucked down the plug-hole is not easy since my hair is about three feet long!

Hopefully we will have the new floor fitted at the end of this week and fingers crossed I will be reclining in to a luxurious bubble bath at some point over the weekend - I can not wait!! I would never have handled being born in Victorian times, that's for sure!

Anyway - at times like this it's nice to 'let go' and paint something much less pedantic than the norm - like my Seagulls, which I painted for the Naked Challenge last week...

8" x 8" Oil on Gesso Panel

...And I really enjoyed painting it too! I based it on some sketches from few years back.

Anyway, once the bathroom is finished, I'll post some photo's.
Meanwhile, I promise I'll try not to kill myself while using the bathroom! Wish me luck!

Back soon!

More Fishy Business...

Here is another little fella I painted for the February Naked Challenge. I thought I'd share it over here while I am busy completing my Cocktail Glass...

8" x 8" Oil on Gesso Panel

I love painting Goldfish... Those shiny scales and the little bubbles are a pleasure to paint!
...And there is a third I will share with you some time soon :0)

Happy painting all!

Work in Progress...

Since two people tried to buy my last cocktail painting at the same time, I am part way through another!
Here's how it looks right now, before the colour layers go on...

And here is how it started.
Layer 1...

Layer 2...

...It might seem a bit of a long winded way of going about things, but painting in this way means that the final piece will last a life time or two at least!

I'm confident that I will have this completed over the weekend. After that it will likely be on it's way to California! Of course I will post it here too so you can see the end result :0)

Meanwhile, if you are bored of Cocktails, you might want to pop over to The Naked Artists, to see what else I've been up to! Might see you there!

Happy painting all :0)
