Merry Christmas to All!

Well here we are, it's almost Christmas!!!
It's time to make plans and goals for the New-Year and soak up some inspiration for lots of new paintings!

Meanwhile I will leave you with my latest bear commission.
I was asked by two daughters to paint their parents two childhood bears together.
Isn't that a lovely idea?
So they will be unwrapping it on the big day and I just hope they are as happy with the painting as the daughters are!

So I'll now be taking my annual Christmas bloggy break and will return briefly at the beginning of January before going on holiday with my husband for some much needed sunshine until February!

Until the New-Year, I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a healthy, happy and creative 2015!

Just Drawing...

There are times when I forget how pleasurable it is, to just draw!

After posting my Ballerina, I was itching to draw another - and I will definitely be doing that. Meanwhile I chose another subject altogether - quite different than my usual cocktail glasses...

This is for afternoon 'Tea and Scandal!'

I think this is most effective when viewed from a distance, as is the case with a lot of art...

I enjoyed drawing it so much that I broke out the watercolours and did another version - after all, how can we have tea and scandal when there is no one else to enjoy it with!

So, I have got the drawing bug again, but I haven't stopped painting of course!
In fact, I have just handed over my large bear commission and I couldn't have wished for a happier client! Their reaction made all the stress that comes with a commission well worth while! Hopefully I can share the painting with all of you soon.

Before I go, I thought I'd show you my cocktail glass all dressed in it's frame...

I love seeing them like this. I have always thought that choosing the right frame for a painting is so important and this warm, metallic frame really works well :0)

Anyway, as I mentioned in my last post, blogging will be sporadic for a while as Christmas approaches... I'll be back as soon as I can!

Birthday Ballerina...

Today is my Mum's birthday. Happy birthday Mum!

I scoured high and low for the perfect card, but couldn't find one that I liked enough. In the end I decided to draw the card myself. I don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place!

Mum has always liked ballet, so it was an obvious subject choice.
When she was little she wanted to be a Ballerina but for some reason she was sent to learn Tennis, so when my Sister and I were growing up, she sent us to do the Ballet lessons instead!

I used a reference photo for this, but changed the facial profile to look more like me.
But I never has such impressive, muscular legs - In fact as a young teenager my knobbly knees protruded more than my boobs did, which very uncool at the time!

It was so lovely drawing an entirely new subject. I rarely draw figures but this one has given me the bug to do more. So, watch this space!!
