Birthday Ballerina...

Today is my Mum's birthday. Happy birthday Mum!

I scoured high and low for the perfect card, but couldn't find one that I liked enough. In the end I decided to draw the card myself. I don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place!

Mum has always liked ballet, so it was an obvious subject choice.
When she was little she wanted to be a Ballerina but for some reason she was sent to learn Tennis, so when my Sister and I were growing up, she sent us to do the Ballet lessons instead!

I used a reference photo for this, but changed the facial profile to look more like me.
But I never has such impressive, muscular legs - In fact as a young teenager my knobbly knees protruded more than my boobs did, which very uncool at the time!

It was so lovely drawing an entirely new subject. I rarely draw figures but this one has given me the bug to do more. So, watch this space!!

  2. This is lovely Sandra, so delicate and ethereal compared to your dark, rich, atmospheric oil paintings. Happy birthday to your mum and i forgot to day in my kat comment-cingrars in being featured!

  9. Blimey Sandra! What a drawing... phew!

She's going to love this. Anyone can buy a card, but the effort that goes into a card like this says a great more than simply 'Happy Birthday'.

    Your so clever!

Yes, I agree that it's nicer to make a card than buy one - and this was an '0' birthday so deserved something extra special :0)

    Gros bisous ♡
