Apple Oil Study...

Title:
'Not A Banana'

And just what is wrong with that title?
I mean, I know it is of course an apple, but it also most definitely not a Banana!
And don't you agree that a title such as 'The Apple' sounds a trifle dull?

Anyway, this small 8" x 8" oil study of what is 'not a banana', was quite fun to paint.
I spent my time largely with the apple in one hand and my brush in the other, occasionally blobbing my paint on to the apple itself, to match the colours perfectly.
Of course I had to be careful to remember not to eat it afterwards - in which case I might actually DIE!!!
This would be an awful shame because I still have the third in my fruity trio to do!

This year I plan to embark on some large paintings. But while I am building my website I have been working small while time is short.
I am SO looking forward to getting my teeth in to something
BIG!

  1. Well I for one thinks it's a great title - that sort of thing appeals to me. In face it reminds me of one of mine and my sister's favourite jokes (and we weren't even kids at the time!) "Me: Ask me if I'm an Orange. You: Are you an orange? Me: No." Ahhh it still makes me chuckle now!
Anyway, your apple is fabulous. I really like the minimalist approach to your still life paintings - no background, no fuss just a really brilliant apple!

    1. Thank you so much! I was SO excited to see that someone had signed up for my newsletter on the first day - but then I realised it was me! Duh!
But then yesterday I got another notification and it was you! I'm going to do quarterly from the official launch of the website. I'd best start making notes, lol! :0)

It's an 8x8 inch, so small! But tha apple is larger than life size. Can't wait to get on to something bigger :0)

  6. Sandra, this apple/not banana just glows as it emerges from the dark background. Beautifully done!!! I laughed, imaging you daubing it with paint to get the colors right. :)
Looking forward to big ... bigger ... BIGGEST!!!

    1. Thanks so much Kathryn.
I often do that - paint the actual object... It's a bonkers, but great way of matching colours! It's just a risky business when painting food, lol! :0)

  9. Oh this is lovely, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with the title, quite the contrary :) Love the light and simple background. Is your new website up? How exciting. What did you use to build it? I'm planning to give my blog a big makeover, and move it to another site. But it's time consuming, isn't it. But fun too.

    1. Yes, it's almost there... Just need to put the Paypal buttons up before I finally get back to painting - otherwise there will be nothing on it to sell, lol!
It is time consuming but well worth it I'm sure :0)

  10. This is a little gem here.. I think because you did the study holding an apple in your hand, it has added that extra zing to the painting..Loved it.. Still looking at it. :)

  12. Well you certainly have a good point, that is not a banana! It is a beautiful apple. I have to say that when I used oils (years ago), I used to hold the brushes in my mouth and often put the wrong end in and I'm not dead. But that could explain a lot about me :) Good luck with the blog, I can't figure the things out.
    Have fun.
    Luv Von.
