The Wonderful World of William...

Do you remember how magical Christmas was when we were small?
And do you remember back then, when we used to just draw because we knew we could?
We never questioned the result - everything was our own little masterpiece!

It's such a shame that as we get older, we question ourselves isn't it?
Why on earth can we not just draw and love what we create, regardless of whether 'the perspective is right' or 'the tonal values are true'.

Oh to draw from the mind of a child!
Don't you just love that idea?

Anyway - On that note, I decided that instead of sharing my carefully rendered Gin bottle with you today, I would instead share my Nephew, Williams own little carefree Christmas masterpiece!

By William Fountain

He has drawn with no questions and purely for the pleasure of drawing - and so he has created a little bit of wonderfulness!
A perfect, unquestionable masterpiece!

Don't you agree?

This is my final post of 2012 and I won't be back until the new year.
But before I go, I wanted to wish all of you a wonderful Christmas and a happy, creative New-Year!

I also want to thank all of you for your continuing encouragement and support - I am quite sure that I wouldn't have come nearly so far without you :0)

Merry Christmas!!!

PS. For my last couple of posts, I have been responding to comments direct through email rather than on the blog roll - but I'm not sure it's working! So, if you have left a comment but not got a response by email, could you let me know so I can go back to the old way of doing it?

  4. Dear Sandra, to you and your family, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Ps : my little dog Nerone was hit by a head stroke. After several visits to the vet, now the situation has improved, although still critical and the recovery may not be complete and certainly very long. Although nero is 16 years old, for the family is one of us. We all are very sad.

  13. Williams drawing is wonderful and I so agree with everything you've written about drawing from the mind of a child without the restrictions that we force on ourselves by trying to be 'grown up'. Reading the other comments it looks as if I may be the only one not receiving your emails but don't change anything on my account.
It's been a joy and an inspiration to follow your blog this last year (and before) and it's wonderful to see you making such good progress with your art.
Merry Christmas Sandra and a very happy New Year. ;)

  14. How did I miss this post?? I LOVE Williams drawing. I have always thought that children's art is the only 'true' art, because they do it with no inhibitions, or expectations to please. It comes from a pure place. When my oldest boy was younger he used to love to draw these comic book characters he made up. We had an art show in our home one night just for him, invited family, and made refreshments. He was SO proud. *sigh* good memories. :) Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!! Hugs to you my dear friend.

You can see it on http://www.dailypaintworks.com/Challenge/1D39CA4E-D4CF-48c4-BD85-0EE79665CE21 . I did it just for the fun and took me about 15 minutes. I loved doing it!! I felt a bit like a child again:)
I wish you a very merry Christmas and a very happy 2013!

  18. A very Happy New Year to you. Sadly the memories I have of Christmas are so different from the joy you seem to have had. It was a time of year I never looked forward to, so many friends all getting new things while I had to learn to accept that my parents could not afford such things and live with what they could manage. Thank you though for making me stop and reflect on all the good things my childhood did give me in the lessons learned.

  19. what a lovely post (even if I am a little late getting to it! you are so right-it would be wonderful to keep painting with the carefree abandon and confidence in our abilities that little children have. William has captured the essence of a child's Christmas perfectly! happy new year Sandra. here's to plenty of inspiration and art time and perhaps a meeting in the Highlands if you and Paul make it up that way!
