'Who, Me?'

Would you like to see the new bear?

Okay, here he is..............

I adored painting this little fellow!

Before I go, I so often hear of people asking how you know when a painting is complete.
Well, it took me a long while to work it out, but I've finally come to the conclusion that when I begin laying brushstrokes that don't make a difference, either for better or for worse, that is when it's complete - at least that's how it works for me :0)

Anyway - a new bear is now in progress as we speak! Yay!! So watch this space :0)

  1. I know what its like to have no time to paint and get into the studio. Life has away of showing us, we need to take priority on other things.

  3. Sandra I LOVE your new bear!!! The soft edges of his fur contrasted withhis sharp eyes really makes a bold statement. He is beautiful!! I always think of your bears as boys, I don't know why other than perhaps the names you give them, maybe you should paint a real 'girly' one one day. :)

And I do like the message of your art journal! I'm glad you have a way to express that and get yourself oer your crisis! I bet so many people don't work it out but just give up, but not you. You are awesome. :) And I was waaaaay off!

    1. Thank you so much crystal! It's funny - I have always thought as bears as boys for some reason too. I've no idea why!
The bear I have in progress now is along a slightly more feminine route. I'll post my initial sketch some time soon and you can tell me if you agree.
As for giving up - well, it's not in my nature thankfully. If there is something I want to do, but I feel I can't, I feel compelled to prove myself wrong! I'm stubborn like that ;0)

  5. WOW!! Sandra, your bears are becoming more and more beautiful!! Every time I remain stunned by the beauty and originality of the composition. I am convinced that one day or the other, you will become famous for your bears and perhaps we will meet them in some permanent exhibition, or in a museum. Hug!

And hearing these comments from such talented Artists makes it all the more amazing - Thank you! It would be a dream to see them hanging all together in an exhibition somewhere. I hope one day it is possible :0)

  7. amazing work as always my friend. i hope you are well and things are better for you since you posted your comment. they certainly appear to be! :0)

thank you so much for your wonderfully kind comments on my blog. i'm relieved that my "confession" of seeing a medium was met with such kindness and understanding. i'm taking it a day at a time, or a minute at a time, whichever works. i just can't handle the missing him but i am feeling better.

take good care and thank you. again, your work is just stunning!

    1. Suzanne I am touched that you are able to think about coming here and leaving such a lovely comment, while you are still suffering from such a huge loss. It shows such strength and it means an awful lot. You are such an amazing talent that I always love to hear your comments :0)
As for the Medium - there's no need to see it as confessing. I'm pretty sure that most of us would do the same if we had the opportunity under your circumstances. And it has clearly helped you in some way and that says a lot. I'm SO glad you like the bear. Now on to the next! :0)

  8. Your bear is amazing, but what freaks me out is how well you paint glass... I love and admire your glass painting a weird and stalkerish amount... and glad you are nearing then end of the hols so there will be no time for confidence crises!!!!

    1. Thanks Tracey! So I now have my very own stalker? How cool, lol!
It's funny - when I first began painting and drawing I used to fear and avoid glass altogether. I never thought I would be able to do it. And yet now, it is one of my very favorite things to paint! It just goes to show that until we try, we just don't know :0)

  9. What richness! The picture oozes attitude, atmosphere and ...er ... alcohol ;0) He does have that gleam in his eye that makes me feel he's had a tipple! Love the move from soft shadow to the clarity of the glass, it really works.

    Wonderful picture.

BTW ... didn't you know Beethoven wrote 'Old Mac Donald...?' Oh yes, and ' Knees up Mother Brown'

You make me laugh. I have visions of my little birdie singing 'Knees up Mother Brown' in a Cockey accent! ;0)
I really enjoyed painting this one. He is just so cute! The next one is veering away from the alcohol route - though I now have a wonderful selection of very old fashioned wine bottles I'd like to use - and I was tempted, but then I considered that people might think i have a drink problem, lol!

I love the tilt of his head too - it gives him such character. And he has such an innocent, yet guilty look on his face! Who could possibly get cross with a face like this, lol ;0)
I am so surprised that the Art Journal page wasn't obvious to everyone. It just goes to show that my mind works quite differently, lol! :0)

  15. Hey Sandra,
A negative of me taking so much time off this summer was missing the blogposts I always follow. SO I just went back and read all your posts : ) This bear painting is lovely. You have such a way of making them feel rich and warm and cozy (and fluffy ; ) Really lovely. I feel I just fell upon the scene in someone's den.
    Happy painting,

  16. Sandra, 'Art' has such a soft fluffy look to him and this is such an interesting composition setting a child's cuddly toy with a bottle of spirit, but it works so well. Such lovely rich tones. I have to say, each one of your works is better than the previous one as you just keep growing and growing. Brilliant work!!!

    1. Thank you John! I'm glad you like each one better than the last. It shows there's growth! People keep suggesting all sorts of themes such as toys etc, but they all seem cliche to me. These bears are meant to appeal to adults and males in particular, so it seems to be working! ;0)
